AI search visibility for UK businesses
When a customer asks ChatGPT for a business like yours, does it name you?
More people now ask an AI assistant for a recommendation before they search. GPT Visibility shows you whether ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini mention your business, who they name instead, and the plain-English fixes that give you a better chance – whether you’re a plumber, a clinic, a law firm, an agency or an accountant.

Ranking on Google isn’t the same as being recommended by ChatGPT
Plenty of businesses rank well on Google and are still never mentioned by ChatGPT. AI assistants give a short list – often two or three names – built from what they can read and verify: your website, your listings, and what other sites say about you.
If an assistant can’t read your site, can’t tell which towns you serve, or finds your details described differently in different places, it tends to name someone easier to describe. That isn’t a judgement on your work. It’s a gap in the record, and most of it can be fixed.
- Your firewall or hosting may be blocking AI crawlers without you knowing.
- Your homepage may never say the town or the services clients actually ask about.
- Directories and roundups the AI reads may list competitors but not you.
- AI may have your phone number or opening hours wrong.
How the AI visibility audit works
1. Tell us about your business
Name, website, the towns you serve and the services you want to win. Five minutes.
2. We ask AI what your clients ask
Customer-style questions such as “emergency plumber in Leeds” or “family solicitor near Bristol”, asked several times on ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini. We never put your name in the question, so we measure real recommendations.
3. We check what AI can see
Whether AI crawlers can reach your site, whether your schema and contact details are clear, and which sources the assistants cite.
4. You get a score, a rate and a fix list
A GPT Visibility score out of 100, how often you were named, who was named instead, the pages AI relied on, and fixes in priority order.

Why a rate and not a screenshot? AI answers change from one run to the next. Asking the same question once tells you very little; asking it repeatedly tells you how often you’re actually recommended.
What we find on small business websites
From our first checks, which were on real UK accountancy practice websites (anonymised). The same issues apply to any business. These are technical findings only – each one is something an owner can act on.
BlockedAI search crawlers turned away
A Leeds practice’s robots.txt allowed every bot, but the site returned “403 Forbidden” when fetched as OAI-SearchBot and PerplexityBot – likely a CDN or firewall setting. ChatGPT search can’t show sites it can’t read. How to check yours.
MissingNo business schema
A long-established family practice had no LocalBusiness or AccountingService structured data on its homepage, so its address, phone and services weren’t stated in machine-readable form.
GoodWhat “ready” looks like
Another practice had crawlers allowed, AccountingService schema, one consistent phone number, a full postcode and the town in its headline – a solid base to build AI visibility on.
We don’t publish client names or invent results.

AI search visibility: questions businesses ask
Can you guarantee ChatGPT will recommend my business?
No, and you should be wary of anyone who says they can. There’s no form to submit and no way to buy a place in AI answers. We measure how often you’re named, fix what’s in your control, and re-test so you can see whether it moved.
How long does it take to see a change?
Technical fixes, such as unblocking AI crawlers, can matter within days. Being named more often usually takes weeks to a few months, because it depends on other websites and listings mentioning you consistently.
Which AI tools do you check?
ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini. We ask the same customer-style questions on each, several times, and report how often each one names you.
Do I need to change my website?
Often a little: making sure crawlers can reach it, stating the towns and services you cover in plain words, and adding accurate business schema. With the Fix Sprint we do the technical changes for you, with your sign-off.
Is this the same as SEO?
It overlaps. Good SEO helps, but AI assistants also lean on third-party sources – directories, roundups and forum threads – and on clear, consistent facts about your practice. The audit focuses on those signals.
What do you need from me?
Your business name, website, the towns you serve and the services you most want to win. Nothing else is needed for the snapshot.
